Aluminum Polishing
« on: June 06, 2011, 12:15:07 PM »
Anyone know how to get ahold of Wayne B. (Fastone)?  His number is not in service, and my email got bounced back as undeliverable.

Dave's paint job looks way too good for the rest of the Rebel so now I have to spruce up some other parts.  I have aluminum engine cases and the lower forks legs in bad need of cleaning/polishing.  I can do this myself, but I just don't want to spend the mega hours wet sanding and polishing.  I'd like to farm this out.

I know Wayne said a while ago that he had a buffing machine and was doing aluminum polishing.

Peace and Grease, Dennis

Dennis I read on the Naked Goldwing Club site that some members use baking soda and blast it with a sand/bead blaster to clean aluminum.  Might be worth a try.

Some aluminum parts have clear coat on them that tarnishes.  I removed mine easily with bumper stripper for automotive finishes.  What remained was nice and shiney, a little buffing was all it needed.

I checked out soda blasting too... but that left it dull looking.

I'm told that coke and tinfoil are the way to go !!!! I haven't tried it ...but I'm going too and see what happens.

Does nothing for the aluminum. But for awhile, the whole bike and the rest of the world look better. So I heard.  ;D
