Custom Decals
« on: March 27, 2015, 05:12:11 PM »
I am planning on Stuntman Fubar painting my 883.  The tank and fender will be semi-flat like the Smithers XS650 Bobber.  However, I want a Harley Davidson decal on the tank.

I think an aluminum grey coloured logo would look good, since the bike is predominantly black, chrome and aluminum.

I like the first one.  However, after much googling around I can't get one fast enough.  I checked Excalibur and HD and both referred me to Trim Line.   I spoke with a sales person who said they can pretty much make whatever I want, and using downloaded images makes it super easy.

My thoughts are to get something made along the lines of the following HD logos, but in aluminum grey.

I really like this one, but I am not sure it could be mono coloured.  Probably not.

This might be possible, but have it made in aluminum grey.

I'm going to p.m. Stuntman and ask him to chime in.

Peace & Paint, Dennis

I printed off some black and white versions of three of the above in different sizes.  Dropped by Stuntman's for feedback on sizes that can compound bend over the curved tank.  I'm following his advice on size,  but not on the colour or which  decal ... "its my [bike] and I'll cry if I want to."  I'm glad people have chimed in with comments though.

Trim Line was just a block away, so I dropped in without an appointment (in a previous phone call, I was supposed to wait for them to call and set it up).  I happened to get one of the artists who was covering the till in place of the receptionist.  By the time I explained why I was dropping off papers for sizes, the artist just took all my details and started in.

We'll see the mock up, but he figures he can make a mono toned (or possibly two shades of light grey) that would work with the 1937 version I like (the art deco thing).  He also showed me a brushed aluminum vinyl they can use for the decals, but I think I'll stick with light grey.

Trimline's proofs.

I am totally leaning towards the two tone art deco version (top right).  I may also get the Motor Co. Inc. version also.

After some discussion with the artist at Trimline, these are the decals I have ordered (a set of each) but, instead of "brushed chrome and metallic silver" the lighter part will be "metallic silver" and the slightly darker part will be "gun metal grey", for the art deco version.  The Motor Co. Inc. version will be "metallic silver".

Ever buy house paint and wonder how they come up with the names which are supposed to mean something? "Tropical Mist" "Cool Spa White" "Ethiopian Famine Tan."  I guess I am guilty of using "aluminum grey" but all I meant was grey that looked like aluminum.  To me, these and the other options are all just "50 Shades Of Grey."

Trimline is a block from Stuntman Fubar's.  The decals may be available Friday afternoon.  If so, I will drop them off with Dave, and sit back and wait for his magic.  He has my tins already.
