Home made gaskets
« on: April 11, 2013, 02:06:49 PM »
I've never actually done this before.  A couple of weeks ago when I was getting the Chang Jiang ready, I had to pull the carbs.  The old gaskets were destroyed in the process.  I used a leather punch for the small holes, and a hole saw drill bit for the big hole.  I carefully filed the rough edges.  So far they are working just fine.   It was actually pretty easy.  32 years of working on bikes, and I am still learning.

Actually Denis , this is a common practice in my trade, particulaly for field repairs.  A very useful one at that.  I use a hole punch like you did, then a small ball peen hammer striking the edge of the piece with the gasket material over it, and presto, a gasket magically appears   8)
