Title: Registration - ICBC
Post by: SuperFly on March 07, 2021, 07:10:37 PM
Looked through most of last posts on ICBC registration procedure....still a little foggy :

I have previous owner  ( NOT registered owner )  Bill of sale from Alberta person to me

I have ICBC Registered owner search (ICBC) paper showing last registered owner in BC - lives about 500 k south of here

I have Last Registered owner SIGNED transfer -tax paper from this person

He does not have original registration paper and has no interest in going into ICBC for one at this time ( covid?)

Should I get a Notary signed paper  BEFORE I go into ICBC office and try to register in my name on Bike ?

Will ICBC do this without the original signed registration paper or is the signed transfer paper and Search record be enough?

I have done this before and it worked only because the last registered owner was deceased

Search document also shows good status on bike - not stolen

Thanks

It's been my experience with ICBC that you will always need the last registered owner to produce either 1) a signed copy of the registration or b) a bill of sale that says "I lost the registration" and has all the numbers on it. They need to be able to track the ownership right up to the last person before you.

If your paperwork shows the intent of the last registered owner to sell it to you, you might be OK.

I would bring a notarised statement that spells out the steps you've taken to obtain the correct paperwork along with your transfer papers and see what happens. You might want to solicit the club for feedback on a good agent office to deal with.  Some are dicks but some are great. I used to deal with Porter-Mac in the College Heights Mall and the fellow there was a quick study.

Good luck!

I agree with Steve; try registering with what you have, plus a stat dec.

I'm pretty swamped in trial preparation right now, but give me a call or send an email to my office to set up a meeting and we'll do the stat dec.
