As my service manual on the AS3 is as vague as Guys R69 manual, and never having delved into this before I thought I'd ask the collected wisdom here. The crankseals on my AS3 likely need replacing, I have a complete set. Is it possible to replace these with out having to split the engine and remove the crank? Or would it be wiser to bite the bullet and do major surgery?

Yes Han's, there is a Santa Claus! removing the alt/mag? rotor will be the hardest part.......I can be bribed with beer...Cheers!

I managed to do that side, once I got the alternator armature off, it went pretty quick. Trying to figure out how to not have the engine turn on me while removing the armature gave me a headache. Finally took the head off one cyclinder, stuffed a clean rag in the cylinder, and put the head back on. The $3 set of princess auto dental tools managed to yank the seal out before they self destructed. That seal looked pretty shot. It's the other side that I'm hesitant to try, gear/clutch/?? who knows waht. That seal sits in oil though, so I'm guessing it's in better shape. If it was leaking, there should be more oil smoke. Then there are the other seals. Don;t have them, so.... not to worried, they'd leak tranny fluid if there was trouble.
